Good morning to all!
The other day while reading about the moon I came across the following lines:
China has revealed further details of its plans to explore the Moon - the first unmanned probe
could be launched by 2005, say officials. They also hinted that the motivation for the missions is
to mine the Moon's resources.
The lunar program, named Chang'e after a legend about a fairy that visits the moon, would be in
three phases. First an orbiter would be sent to the Moon, followed by a lander, and then finally a
sample return craft.

Does anybody know the legend?
It sounds so beautiful and mysterious...

Many ancient Chinese literators wrote poetries or articles on Chang'e.
e.g.
嫦娥 [唐朝] 李商隐
云母屏风烛影深,长河渐落晓星沉。
嫦娥应悔偷灵药,碧海青天夜夜心。
Chang E by Li Shangyin
The candle casts deep shadows on the screen,
The Milky Way dims and morning stars fade.
Chang-O must regret stealing the elixir,
As she broods in loneliness night after night.
