Despite the thriving of TVs and movies, reading books remains a
preferable pastime for many people as it was years ago. However,
bookstores have changed with the times and they now have many new

Beijing
As the cultural center of China, Beijing boasts China's top two
universities, Tsinghua and Beida, and its famous feature bookstores are
either connected to some cultural celebrity or some prestigious
university, or simply cater to the large readership of college students.
*Lubo Shuwu (Lubo bookstore)
Lubo Shuwu, located opposite Luxun's (the writer who initiated China's
modern literary revolution) old house, is a bookstore dedicated to Luxun,
dealing with books by Luxun and various articles used by Luxun.

*Forest Stone Bookstore
Backed by Peking University professors, Forest Stone Bookstore is well
known for its academic ambience, mainly dealing with books on history,
philosophy, politics, law. It also has some ancient books, but customers
won't find flashy best-sellers or books by inferior publishing companies
on its shelves.

*Diaoke Shiguang (carving time)
Combining the function of cafe and book bar, Diaoke Shiguang has books
mainly for reading instead of selling. Located near the famous Renmin
University, it boasts a large readership of college students.

*Guanghe Zuoyong
An aristocrat in bookstores, a Guanghe Zuoyong membership can only be
gained through a one-time purchase of over RMB 380 or one year
